Light Grenades – incubus at its most melodic

Sampling the new record from Incubus and I’m liking it despite them taking it to a different direction from before. If you’ve listened to the tracks from Stealth (besides Make A Move), those few tracks were in a way a sneak peek of what material Incubus were writing.

As I’ve said, definitely the most melodic…I haven’t looked into the lyrics just yet but so far it touches me.

00. Incubus - Light Grenades
the artwork for the album is cool as usual! if you looked at it, definitely very deep and insightful with all the insignia of the different beliefs of the world!

Based on the artwork alone, for me it seems like the idea of ‘peace’ is so volatile that all major beliefs of the world are responsible if it blows up in our own faces, hence like a grenade. Well thats just my opinion from the artwork. I mean u can see symbols of peace in it, with all the symbols of religion/belief systems and the bottom is either a phoenix or eagle which I gather represents freedom….The fact its shaped as a grenade might indicate that despite so many pure beliefs of peace and freedom it comes at a cost of war. True or not is subject what your mind perceives it. That’s how I see the artwork anyway so don’t go bitchin n shit! My views, my two cents, so fuck back off if you don’t agree with it!

So far the tracks showcase riffs that are more raw than I’ve come across. Kinda like an organized mix of spontaneous, edgy, raw and messy sound which fits into place! It’s hard for me to describe it so just have a listen! No doubt having the Primus-Mr Bungle kinda style….

Most of the tracks don’t stick to me in an instant but listening to it over n over again makes it sound better than before. Most of the tracks are kinda average in length and the longest track is about 5 1/2 minutes long.

Mikey sure sounds different as well! I couldn’t identify at first the guitar work of Mikey in the beginning so sounds like he’s been going at it really differently. Still sounds tight though! Ben complements Mikey’s guitar and piano play as well. Perfect harmony! Ben definitely added a more progressive groovy bass to it (Sorry Dirk/Alex!). Kilmore’s touch is subtle as far as I hear it but you know he’s there. Sinks into the sub-concious. No observable scratches per-se but the spacey sounds fills the background and gaps nice!

Check it out! In stores November 28!
